Who is Amir chakhmaq?

The story of the creation of this collection begins here, as Sayyid Jalaluddin Shami, famous for Amir Chakhmaq, the generous ruler of Yazd in the 9th century AH, and during the Timurid period, orders the construction of Amir Chakhmaq Square. But just after the completion of the square, Sayyid Jalaluddin dies. And whoever continues to build this complex and its water reservoir,There is no one other than Stifi Fatemeh, faithful wife of Amir Chakhmagh.

The Amir chakhmaq complex in Yazd consists of a market, a ridge, a mosque and two water reservoir. This square was built during the Timurid period, in the eighth century AH. On the orders of the Yazd ruler, now his name is on the square: Amir Jalaluddin Chakhmaq or chaqmaq. This square belongs to the Timurid period, which was famous for the same name in the Safavid era. In the time of Shah Abbas, some of these works have been revived. Still, some of the buildings constructed under the command of Amir Chakhmaq have retained their use and, of course, the main use of the Amir Chakhmaq square, namely, "the prosperity of the city of Yazd," remains largely valid in our days.

In this vast and unsurpassed area, the important gatherings of Yazd people are held. Amir Chakhmaq, in terms of design and architecture, worked great in building this building. The tiles of the square buildings are somewhat unique in their type.
The following can be mentioned from the monuments of Amir Chakhmaq Square:

Amir Chakhmaq Mosque | The oldest building of the square

On the southern side of this square, the Amir Chakhmaq mosque was built in 841 AH. The beauty and magnitude of this mosque is the second most important mosque in Yazd after the jameh mosque of Yazd. The dome of the mosque is curved and cracked, covered with green tiles and surrounded by inscriptions on the Kofi line.

Water reservoirs of Amir Chakhmaq Square

Another part of Amir Chakhmaq's collection is its water reservoir, which numbered to three, but one of them, called the Square Water reservoir , was destroyed, and today only two works of water reservoir have remained as a monument. These water reservoir facilities are still used by the general public about 40 years ago and are not used by cities when entering the pipelines.

Tekyeh(A building for sitting and mourning)

Amir Chakhmaq Yazd complex includes market, waterreservoir, tombstone, mosque and square. The east side of the square is a two-story Tekyeh. This two-story brick building, along with its high minarets, was once a gathering place for kings and ladies to watch the mourning and palm trees held in the backyard. We know that the Tekyeh, the high-rise building usually consists of two minarets that were made on one side of Husseinieh(A building for prayer). And it was customary for the people to hold the ritual of mourning in the backyard, and the kings and ladies sat on the pavilions to observe the ritual of mourning and palpation. The inscription on the Shahstani pavilion shows this date as 1258, which dates back to 137 years. It is said that the two big minarets of this Tekyeh have been added to the Qajar period.

Heidari Palm or Amirkhmahmak Palm

Another spectacular section of this square is the great palm that is known as the Palm Heidari, and according to Abdul Hussein Ayati, the history of this palm dates back to 450 years ago and the Safavid period.
The pilgrimage ceremony is one of the unique features of the special ceremony of Muharram and mourning in Yazd. Takyeh Amir Chakhmaq has two minarets located in one on Husseinieh. During the mourning and the paltry, the ruler sat in the king's room and the ladies in the other courtyards and watched the ceremonies.
