The Iranians called the rock "Piroozeh" for victory, then the Arabs praised the word and called "Firoozeh". In English, this term means the Turkish stone (derived from the French word Pierre Turquoise), based on the historical fact that in the past, Iran and other nations of the Middle East through the Turkish route, exported the stone to Europe. And the general impression was that the stone was mined in Turkey.
It was said that "Firooz fayruz" was used in Turkey, and the best-quality extraction in Iran was in one of the first large turquoise mines in the world in Neyshabur. This stone was considered to be a valuable ornamental stone in Europe in the 14th century. After the collapse of the Roman Catholic Church, people were allowed to use it in making jewelry.
Turquoise has two types: Ajami Turquoise, which is smooth, and Shajari turquoise, which is a veiny that is extracted and processed. Turquoise Ajami is more valuable. Turquoise in the heart of the mountain is made up of two blue and green colors, blue turquoise in jewelry and green in handicrafts.
This mountain in its heart holds the world's best turquoise stone. When you walk through tunnels crawled and drilled hundreds of years ago by hands, It seems like a step back in history and you hear the voice of the workers' feet and the hammer and the sleds they crawl on the mountain.
Humidity is high and sometimes we feel oxygen deficit in old tunnels that stop drilling and do not have an air pipe. It is difficult to imagine that it was difficult to remove and process these precious stones from the mountains in the distant years without the present facilities. During the visit, turquoise veins that appear on the body of the caves are visible.
In every section that has been excavated, the texture of the mountain is preserved and the tunnels are protected by rocky basements. In the lower floors where depth reaches more than 100 meters, there is water and turquoise stone is inhaled with water. This makes turquoise better and more valuable. Because turquoise is the only living stone in the world, and water brings transparency, brilliance and beautiful color.
The turquoise Mine of Neyshabur, one of the most unique mines in the world, has been mined annually between 30 and 40 tons of turquoise stones, and between 15 and 20 percent is converted into jewelry and more than 300 turquoise mills in this city. 25 professors work on specialty turquoise art.
In the mine, first processes are performed on the rocks, and then sold to those who do the milling. Turquoise shaving is generally performed in three cities; One is in the Firoozeh, which is located in two Olia and Sofla villages, most housewives are turquoise women and the other cities are Neyshabur and Mashhad.
Because this mine is one of the Iranian brands and very enthusiastic, and for about two years, many tourists come to visit this mine.
Also, jewelry made of turquoise is the main souvenir of Neyshabur city and even Khorasan Razavi province.
